  • By the time a pregnant woman delivers her baby, her blood volume will increase (on average) 50%.
  • A pregnant woman’s body at rest uses more energy that her partner’s body while exercising.
  • A woman will produce more estrogen during one pregnancy than she will in her entire life.
  • Progesterone helps a woman’s uterus increase from the size of a pear to a size large enough to house a full-term baby (think good size watermelon!).
  • Pregnancy hormones tend to darken the skin pigmentation of the areola (skin around the nipple).
  • It is common for pregnant women to have a higher threshold for strong salty, sour, and sweet tastes.
  • Most pregnant women report a perceived increase in their sensitivity to odors.
